Dermal Filler
What is dermal filler?
Dermal fillers, such as hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers, are gel-like substances that are administered to decrease wrinkles and restore or create volume. Juvederm is a common brand, created by Allergan.
Where can filler be used? Lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, nasolabial folds, under-eyes, or temples
Are there side effects? All medications and treatments have side effects and potential complications. The most common side effects with Juvederm are mild to moderate bruising and swelling. All side effects and possible complications will be discussed before signing consent, during your consult.
Is a consult required? Yes. All states require a consult, also known as a good faith exam, which will allow the provider to ensure you are receiving the best treatment for YOU and there are not any contraindications of receiving the treatment. Depending on the treatment, most consults will be completed once per year or if there is a change with the patient or plan of care.
What are the contraindications for Juvederm? Pregnant, nursing, diagnosis of neurologic disease (ALS, myasthenia gravis, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s), active infections or surgery near the treatment area (<6 months)
Can I bring a clearance letter from my specialist stating I can get filler? Yes, however this does not guarantee the administration of dermal filler and will be determined if the provider is comfortable proceeding with the treatment.
